The Chrysalis House

The Chrysalis House was created as a safe transition for women seeking to discover the joy of living a sober life.  We believe sobriety is a life-long journey of self-discovery supported by the spiritual program of AA and NA.  Working together the residents support each other to seek deeper meaning and purpose in their lives.  It is an environment of positivity, spirituality, and encouragement.

We provide structure and opportunity to work towards personal growth in all areas of one’s life, including yoga and meditation, goal setting skills and personal development courses, art therapy, and of course 12 step meetings.  Making the decision to stay at the Chrysalis House is taking the step to explore your gifts and hopes for your future and to share those in a supportive and loving community of women who are on the same path of recovery.

The house hosts up to four women and is conveniently located next to a main bus line.  Women who choose to stay with us will be expected to have a sponsor and to be working the 12 steps.  Meetings are a requirement, and the standard 90 in 90 is highly recommended.  We support your success in attending meetings as the Chrysalis House is located adjacent to a 12-step meeting site that hosts meetings 6 days a week, as well as streaming Zoom meetings in the house.

In early recovery it is important that we spend time developing a deep sense of who we are.  Certain types of relationships detract from this process of inner-reflection and self-examination.  New romantic relationships are prohibited at the Chrysalis House, however, those who are in committed relationships will be encouraged to work on healing these through counseling, CODA and weekend visits.  Residents are expected to stay at the Chrysalis House during the week, and for the first two weekends.  Following this initial period, weekends can be spent at home with family given that the situation is safe and healthy.  In order for residents to remain safe, only those women actually staying at the house will be allowed to enter the premises.  However, adjacent to the Chrysalis house is the Community House, which is available for visits from family and friends after 3PM.
The Chrysalis House provides opportunities for residents to engage in service, including obtaining community service hours, through working at the adjacent Community House.  The activities hosted by the Community House are also available to residents.  Mothers who have visitation rights, can engage in crafts, games and other hands-on activities with their children at the Community House.  In addition, in the spring the Community House will host a garden, and meditation and yoga.

The Chrysalis House is interested in women who are serious about working through those issues that caused them to drink and drug.  This is the work of the heart and can only be done in loving community.  Residents of the Chrysalis House will become a part of this community as we encourage each other to embrace the joy of a sober life.  Perhaps this sounds like the next step in your healing journey?
